Extended Range Rover SVAutobiography revealed
The new Range Rover SVAutobiography long-wheelbase is on show at the LA motor show, before orders for £167,850 model are taken from 29 November.
The SVAutobiography LWB is built on the Range Rover’s 3120mm wheelbase (up from 2922mm of the regular car) to provide rear passengers with 1.2 metres of leg room and seats that can recline by 40 degrees.
These deep foam seats feature a hot stone massage function and heated calf and footrests. Passengers can open and close the doors with a button, and reach a deployable rear table with an integrated 10in touchscreen, with 4G wifi connectivity. Between the two rear passengers is a refrigerator, big enough to hold two wine bottles or four 600ml bottles.
Storage space can be enlarged by folding down the right rear seat, with a power veneer loadspace floor also added to a Range Rover for the first time to aid with loading and unloading.
Up front, there's Land Rover's Touch Pro Duo infotainment system with twin touchscreen controls, allowing information to be swiped from one screen to the other.
Power comes from a choice of three engines. At the top of the line up is Land Rover’s 557bhp supercharged 5.0-litre V8, borrowed from the hot SVR and shared with the smaller SVAutobiography Dynamic, which comes exclusively with the unit. The LWB commands £177,030 with this engine.
Beneath this is a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit with an electric motor, which goes into the plug-in hybrid P400e with 398bhp. It costs £168,015. The entry-level engine is a 4.4-litre SDV8 diesel, which has 334bhp.
Land Rover design boss Gerry McGovern said: “The Range Rover SVAutobiography is the epitome of luxury, comfort and refinement. Our standard-bearer for quality and precision exemplifies the attention to detail and sophistication that has been a hallmark of our most luxurious SUV stretching back almost 50 years.”
Employees at Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations Technical Centre in Warwickshire will hand-build the new model, offering high levels of customisation.
The SVAutobiography’s public showing in LA will showcase it alongside the Discovery SVX and Range Rover Sport SVR, as well as the standard wheelbase SVAutobiography Dynamic.
